Mike Maszy
Mike Maszy went on to study Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida, receiving both his B.S. and M.S. degrees. Mike then started an internship at Medtronic — a Fortune 500 medical devices company — in their Xomed division, and realized his passion for life-saving and life-sustaining devices and technology.
Over the course of a decade, Mike worked across several divisions at Medtronic, gaining hands-on experience in Class III devices and high-growth operating environments. He received his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2010 while continuing his work in medical devices, building teams, scaling infrastructure, and taking technologies from concept to commercialization. Afterward, he began working in the startup space, holding executive roles at Trivascular and Endologix and helping launch breakthrough devices like Ovation and Nellix.
Across his 25+ years of experience, Mike has helped lead companies through IPOs and multi-billion-dollar exits, as well as the complex paths of FDA approvals and global supply chain scale-ups. Most recently, he served as Senior VP of Operations at Shockwave Medical, a company that pioneered intravascular lithotripsy and built a category-defining platform in cardiovascular care. Additionally, he served as a Milestone Maker Mentor for the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center and an Executive Advisor to the UCSF Rosenman Institute.
Mike’s journey from operator to investor led him to found Silverback Ventures, bringing his deep operational expertise, angel investing experience, and entrepreneurial approach to businesses seeking to grow with purpose.
